Single Customer Invoices Report in QuickBooks Online
This article addresses the issue of creating a customer invoices history report in QuickBooks online that does not duplicate sales invoice number data if each of your invoices have multiple lines of sales items.
For example: If you create one invoice, but with multiple lines of different items that you sold within that one invoice, then a typical customer sales detailed report, will show, line by line, each item sold within an invoice. However, each line item in this report will have that same invoice number that it ties to. This creates a cumbersome report, if you are only looking for ONLY the list of invoices created for one customer; most customer detailed sales reports are tied to all the items and not JUST the invoice itself.
QuickBooks online does have another customer sales-based report called “Invoice List.” This report only contains a list of invoices (but without the corresponding detailed sales data within each invoice) created for all customers within a selected period of time. You can then further customize this report to show only the list of invoices created just for one customer, again within a selected period of time.
This report can be useful if you are looking for some sort of a hybrid sales report that falls between a customer sales summary report and a customer sales detailed report, that could possibly be used for calculating sales commission to pay out. Also, this report does display the open balance of each invoice, just in case you want to base your commission payouts based on paid vs. unpaid invoices.
So, to create this customized report:
- Go to your Standard Report list.
- Type into the search bar “Invoice” and select the report called “Invoice List.
- Click on “Switch to classic view” at the top of the report.
- Now click on the “Customize” button at the top right side.
- Click on “Filter”, then check-mark the Customer filter.
- Within the Customer filter, simply find your customer and select it.
- Click on Run Report.
- Within the results, be sure you have the correct reporting period of time that you are needing, then “Run Report” again if need be.
