This article addresses how to manually import your business credit card transactions into your QuickBooks Online file.

This article does NOT address posting transactions via direct connection to your credit card account online, but rather this is if you want to post from an exported spreadsheet (.csv file) instead.

For whatever reasons, you may decide that you do not want to directly connect your QuickBooks Online file to your credit card account online, but instead you choose just to import via a spreadsheet instead.

So, the first thing to do is login to your credit card account online and download your latest credit card transactions to a spreadsheet.  

The three columns of data you will need to import into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) file are:

  1. Date
  2. Memo
  3. Amount

**Sometimes you will need to prepare this exported spreadsheet so QBO can indeed read this during the import process.

Now login to your QuickBooks Online file and:

  1. Click the Settings Gear Icon in the upper right corner.
  2. Select “Import Data” underneath Tools.
  3. Select “Bank Data” from the drop-down menu and click Import.
  4. Drag and drop your saved spreadsheet to the “Upload your file” screen. Note: Be sure your spreadsheet is already converted to a .csv type of file before importing.
  5. Now select the Credit Card account within your QuickBooks Online file where you want this data to import in to.
  6. In the next screen, select all the relevant format and fields choices, then click Continue.
  7. On this final screen, be sure all of the (soon to be imported) charges have a negative value (conversely the payments or credits should have a positive value). If not, then simple select “Reversed all values” at the top.
  8. Click Continue, then verify and click Yes on the pop-up.
  9. Now you can go to your bank feeds area and see all of these new imported transactions waiting for you to post or match.
